"When you're never in the same place for more than a week, you need a constant. Something that doesn't change, ever. Stars are my constant."

What a quick fun little read! This book was super cute! While it does have quite some mixed reviews, I personally really really enjoyed it.

First off, it's about a cursed circus! Though it sounded more like a fair than a circus in my opinion, it was still definitely super awesome to read about this particular setting. It was magical and fun to explore all of the different aspects of Le Grand's Carnival Fantastic. From Emmaline's booth to the fortune telling tent, everything was well described and fun to imagine.

The characters were also lots of fun to read about. Although there were so many characters to learn that it was sort of hard to remember who was who. All of the characters were really likable (minus the Moretti siblings). I really really really disliked the Moretti siblings, which I understand was the point, but it was kind of unrealistic; that along with the fact that nobody else really noticed it. I very very much disliked that the author killed off the one dog, just because 1. animals 2. that was Emmaline's main support system when she arrived.

One problem I had with this book was the predictability. The solution to their problem was very obvious and cliche. Not that there is anything wrong with cliche, but I would've preferred to have been more surprised. Also, these huge accidents that occurred weren't all that tremendous, and yes I understand that it was still supposed to be a shock since they hadn't had accidents in years, but still, it didn't amount to much in the plot of the story.

Overall, this was a really fun and quick read! Bonus for it taking place in a carnival.

Love, love, loved it! Jaime has a true gift for storytelling!
So bad! Could not even get to the middle of this book. Wish I could return it! Hate the characters! Ugh terrible writing (
This is a great read!! I could hardly put down the book. I can’t wait until the next book comes out.
Jaime Questell really knows how to hook a reader!! I couldn't put it down - each chapter pushed you straight into the next. Fabulous storytelling with a unique setting - a magical combination! LOVED it! I can't wait to read her next book!
This is a teen novel with some realistic "ouch" in a magical setting. When Emmaline finds herself stuck in her new setting, her genuine sense of loss from her previous life is presented unflinchingly by the author. This initial sense of real loss at the outset of adventure is a refreshing break from dozens of teen novels that throw their protagonists out from the next without a second glance at the family and life left behind. This initial sense of realistic teen emotion sets the tone for a relatable cast of characters in a fantastical scenario. I would definitely buy a ticket for a repeat show!
What a fun read!

I honestly went into this book expecting it to read like a first novel. Further, young adult novels are often predictable and lack character development.

The idea of the novel was intriguing so I was interested in reading to see where it would go and if it would deliver.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. For the length and intended audience the character development was perfect. The plot had some surprising turns - not in the way of ‘That came out of no where’ but in a ‘Oh, that makes sense’ kind of way.

I really enjoyed it. I can see it as a great movie. And I will watch for Jaime Questell’s next novel.
Now this is a book that took me by surprise.

I wasn't expecting to love it this much.

It's all about an old curse that affected an unknowing Emmaline, who simply went to the circus with her best friend and kissed a boy.

But that kiss wasn't as innocent and it had consequences.

Emmaline got stuck traveling with the circus, trying to find a person to pass the curse onto, while slowly falling in love with a boy from the circus.

I don't want to say too much, so I wouldn't spoil it for anyone because it's just that good and need to be read; all the feelings need to be experienced by every reader.

I loved the story line, the main and secondary characters and I know for sure I'll be rereading it, sometime in the future. I recommend it to everyone.

5 stars.
