I was very disappointed in this book. The rest of the books have been so good, couldn't put them down, read straight through. This one took me days to finish and I had to make myself finish it. I skipped pages at a time looking for conversations or anything that would grip me to keep reading. The story was boring, no action, the sex wasn't anything like before, way too much thinking about the past in their heads, even deaths of people close was kind of blase', like oh dang, oh well. I'm not sure I will read the next book in this series, it's like the author ran out of ideas for a story line and I hate that because all of the other books, in 2 series, so far, have been 5 star books for me. 3 stars on this one was pushing it but I didn't want to hit it with 2 stars.

I want to affirm that I'm a huge fan of this series. So - I've read TSOTG and have to admit I was disappointed. I loved the first 3 books - 5 Stars. The 4th was a 4.5 for me. It was exciting, I was devasted when Bones and Cat had their big fight (their make-up btw was sexy fantastic) and with the whole Cat/Gregor thing, but DFAEG lost a 1/2 star because I wasn't crazy about the whole Marie/ghost/ghoul thing. TSOTG is more of the Marie/ghost/ghoul scenario. But what I was most disappointed in was the lack of any depth from the side characters (ok, Ian got 1 good line) just token appearances from Spade, Ian, Cat's mom, Tate and the boys. Vlad had an ok part in this one and Mencheres sorta. They all seemed to be a bigger part of the other books, more dialog. Possibly the reason for that is the side characters in this series are so loved that they even warrant their own books. Maybe that's why we didn't get as much of them in this book. Also the Cat/Bones relationship although solid in this bk seemed kinda luke warm to me. I just didn't get as connected a feel to this book as I have with the others. And Chapter 21 had NOTHING on Chapter 32. (I actually have a Chapter 32 t-shirt!) I realize Cat/Bones are married and thank gawd also Cat has finally learned a few things when it comes to her realationship with Bones, but it seemed things weren't as spicy in this story. I was most intrigued about the preview for the next book (One Grave At A Time) at the end of the bk than I was with this one. Was it just me? I love this series and am anxiously awaiting One Grave At a Time.
I LOVE the Night Huntress series, but this book just disappointed me. Cat learns from all her mistakes and even appologizes for them. I am all for character growth, but those personality flaws allowed for conflict. Take that away along with any romantic tension and you have a slow moving book where nothing much happens. I found myself skimming occasionally! I should not be doing that with a first time read of one of my favorite series! I wanted to know how it ended, but I was almost ready for it to end. Bones and Cat are so stable in their reltationship that it was dull. I love them together, but I wish Frost would just focus on her spin off series and throw in the pair every once in a while for a cameo. This book was so dissappointing that I was actually mad to read that the next book would be another Cat and Bones book. Don's illness was the most interesting part of the book for me...that says a lot. If you are a die hard fan, you will want to read it but even then I would try to get it from my library.

On a side note, what is with the prices? The version was $7.99 while a paperback was a little over $4! How annoying.
Ghouls are brewing war against vampires using Cat as the main focus. Cat and Bones have to stop it from happening.

So sad to say this, but NOTHING HAPPENED! I don't mind the happy couple routine, sometimes you have to let a couple breathed and just have a sane relationship, what I did mind was to have the three happy couples together, there was no strong reason to have the couples of the Night Huntress World in this book and share their happiness. Then we have a Cat that was borderline ludicrous with her world peace routine and I'm not talking about war against ghouls, but world in general "oh there is a child ghost, who's taking care of it?" Huh? That's just too much, besides the fact that her inner monologue is full with phrases that somebody said to her at one point in her life, so repetitive. I know this is paranormal romance, but there was only one fight, the rest of the book was going from A to B undetected, she even arm wrestler to save a guy instead of I don't know show the Reaper we know and love. The last big "battle" with the bad guy was such a let down I cannot even describe it. And finally chapter 21 is NOT chapter 32, I don't know who said that and went all over the web, but I can assure you that it is not even one of the mild scenes between Cat and Bones and it was the only one (I wish we had a glimpse of the one behind the scenes, that would have been interesting).

Why then three stars? Just because I love this series and Bones and Vlad were exactly what they have always been making their scenes great.

You don't need to read this book to follow the next one, just browse the web for the "big" secret, development or whatever you want to call it, but chances are it will be explained at the beginning of the next one.
I started this series when it first came out. Time, work, family constantly interrupted, but I set aside time for reading the books as each came out. Now retired, I have been going through my books and replacing paper with ebooks. Since I had already read this series in the past, I started rereading this series by character and began with Ivy and Adrian, then Vlad and Mencheres. Lastly, I began the story of Bones and Cat. This is a fabulous world, with a storyline that holds your attention, well developed characters, action, romance and humor. There are lists online giving the order of reading. I recommend following the reading order. If you like the supernatural, romance, vampires, action, humor in a well written series, then please, jump into Ms. Frost's world.
