Second Draft was the first book in CM Seabrook’s Men with Wood series. It was also the first book I’ve read by the author but it definitely won’t be my last.

Carter and Layla met under unusual circumstances but the sparks flew like crazy. Circumstances had them not seeing each other for a year then they had another chance meeting but by then everything had drastically changed. Layla was now pregnant with Carter’s brother’s child. This was where the story began. I normally wouldn’t like the premise of this type of story, but in this case, I loved it. It wasn’t your typical story. And I loved both Carter and Layla. They were perfect together, but the situation was anything but perfect.

Seabrook took us through the chemistry, the challenges, the friendship and more. There was also a bit of mystery behind Layla’s past. We knew there were issues and Seabrook slowly peeled back the layers as the story progressed. It was well written, well developed, multi-dimensional and complex.

In the end, it was emotional, heart felt, a daily struggle for overcoming life’s heart aches and a journey for healing, acceptance and love. There were a couple areas that I would have liked fleshed out a little more, but nothing crucial. Timing is everything and for me, it was the perfect book for what I was currently craving. I can’t wait to read the second book in the series, Second Shot.

This was a very sweet read. I absolutely loved Carter and his desire to take care of Layla. It took a little bit for me to really like Layla, but once you hear her story you understand her better. I don't want to give too much away, but Carter has always cleaned up his younger brother, Travis's, problems because of his past guilt, but this time is different.

Travis had to be the most complicated character in the book; one minute you feel bad for him, then in the next moment you want to smack him with a brick. I honestly didn't expect that ending, but it was still very beautiful.
Wow. I think in one of my other reviews this week, I said I don’t cry much when I’m reading books. That is generally true, but this book made me full-on ugly cry. Sobbing. The emotions in this book were so intense.

This beautiful love story will break your heart into pieces and then slowly put it back together. Carter was a swoon-worthy, book boyfriend from page one and when Layla finally realized that she did deserve someone as sweet and caring as him, everything seemed like it was going to work out.

I don’t want to say much more and spoil the story, but pick this book up. It is so worth a read! It’s sweet and hopeful, steamy and sexy and poignant and sad. My heart went through the whole gamut of feelings while reading this book. I just wanted to see a happy ending for Layla so badly.

Also on a side note, at one point in the book, Carter gives Layla the Best. Gift. Ever. SWOON!

After overcoming so many obstacles, not only as a couple, but individually, this book does have a very happy ending. The epilogues was the perfect way to send the reader off with a smile. I loved it!

No cliffhanger. No cheating. Standalone. HEA.

Carter and Layla crash into each other's lives when he saves her from being run over by a car. Not too long after, Carter can't believe his luck when he sees her in a bar. He steps in again to save her from unwanted attention. They have a connection, but she is afraid to even think of getting involved and he is set to go out of town for work the next day. He gives her his number, forgetting that he just changed to a new one. A year later, Carter comes back into town, only to find Layla living in his house with his brother. And, to top it off, Layla is pregnant with his brother's child. Within 24 hours of Carter's arrival, his brother has run out the door, leaving Carter to deal with things. Carter just wants to get to a place where he and Layla can have a real relationship. Layla is terrified because of secrets in her past. Will Layla ever open up and trust Carter with her heart? Will Carter get to be the man in Layla's life, or will he have to step aside for his brother?

This is not my first book my Ms. Seabrook, and it certainly won't be my last. She has a way of writing that makes the characters feel so real. The heart feels for all that Layla went through in her childhood. And Carter. Well, Carter is just such a wonderful, caring, loving man. And when the baby finally arrives. Nothing melts the heart more than a strong man melting for a tiny newborn. Enjoy!
This book was amazing. I read it from beginning to end in one day. I couldn't put it down. It captured me and I just had to know what was going to happen next. Carter met Layla in a bar. Layla wasn't drinking or partying, she was sitting at the corner of the bar reading a book waiting for her friend. Carter thought she looked like a librarian. He spoke with her and gave her his number. Soon as she left he realized he made a mistake by giving her his old number by accident, he had just gotten a new phone and number. He tried to catch her outside but she was already gone. A year later he runs into her again, in his house...that his brother (Travis) lives in. Carter really likes Layla and they have this lightning chemistry when they touch. Things have happened in that year that Carter was away. He wants to fix everything and be there for Layla. I am trying not to give too much away because this book is amazing and I want you to experience it for yourself. You will not be disappointed. Thank you C.M. Seabrook for another amazing story.
